Market research firm Strategy Analytics recently released a new study report, announcing that, the global smart phone shipments increase 43% in the second quarter this year, to 60 million. Increasing purchase subsidies, competition among the top vendors as well as the promotion and universal of low-cost smartphone promote the global smart phone market development.
Strategy Analytics analyst Alex Spektor said: "The second quarter of this year, global shipments of smart phone reached a record 60 million, accounted for 19% of the entire mobile phone market share. In the second quarter of last year, the global smart phone shipments were 42 million, having an comparison growth of 43%. Operators' increasing efforts of purchase subsidies, competition between high-end vendors and more and more low-cost smartphone models using Symbian and Android operating systems make the smartphone market grow faster than the average growth rate of the mobile phone market."

Strategy Analytics Director Neil Mawston added: "Global smart phone shipments keep growing, but the market size suffers a certain affection is because of the fierce price competition between firms. More than a dozen manufacturers from the telecommunications, PC and consumer electronics have been involved in the smart phone market, promote the declining of smart phones price. Even Nokia, RIM, Apple and some other well-known brand's smart phone prices and profit margins are difficult to improve in such a competition environment."
Take various firms for example, in the second quarter this year, Nokia's smart phone shipments was 24 million, accounting for 40% of the global smart phone market share, ranking first. Followed by the RIM, the smartphone shipments in the second quarter was 11.2 million, accounting for 19% of the global smart phone market share. Apple ranked third, whose smartphone shipments was 8.4 million in the second quarter, accounting for 14% market share in the global smart phone market.
