How-To: Use RedSn0w 0.9.7b5 for Windows to Untethered Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 iPhone/iPad/iPod

RedSn0w 0.9.7b5 has been released by Dev Team finally. This new version fixed Bluetooth issues. In addition, RedSn0w 0.9.7b5 for Windows also fixes sandbox-related issues. Here is the how-to about using RedSn0w 0.9.7b5 for Windows to Untethered Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 iPhone/iPad/iPod.



Note:

(1) This is just a beta version for testers, if you are a beginners, it is better to wait for the stable version.

(2) If your iDevice has been tethered jailbroken, please start from step 1; if your iDevice has not been jailbroken, please start from Step 2.

The detailed steps:

Step 1: Connect iPhone 4/iPad/iPod to PC. Use iTunes 10.1.1 ( Download iTunes 10.1.1 for Windows / Mac OS X: http://www.coveringweb.com/2010/11/download-itunes-101-for-windows-and-mac.html ) to restore iDevice to the official iOS 4.2.1 firmware - To do this:

Hold down the "Shift" key and click restore, select the " iPhone3, 1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw".

Note: If encounter 1013 error, open your Hosts file, then add # before "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com", that is "#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com".

After restore the firmware, the system will automatically restart and then connect to the iTunes to activate the device. Then begin to jailbreak.

Step 2: Extract the downloaded RedSn0w.app; then click "Browse", and then select the 4.2.1 firmware - "iPhone3, 1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw". Click Next to continue.

Step 3: Select Cydia and Jailbreak Monte (untether), and in the pop-up dialog box, select the corresponding device 4.2b3 firmware, then click Next.



Step 4: Enter into DFU mode: Maintain iDevice be turned off, and then follow the screen prompts, first press the Power button for 3 seconds, then hold down the Home button and Power button for 10 seconds, then release the Power button, but hold the Home key for 15 seconds. So, if you go to the next screen, you are succeeded.

PS: This process may be some long. Because RedSn0w is not the final version, so RedSn0w may take away all your remaining memory, so before jailbreak, close the software unwanted on the Mac. In addition, do not move the computer.

Step 5: Reboot the iDevice. Bingo!
