Step 2. Back up your data that you don't want to lose during the process.

Step 3. Do a factory reset on your phone. Settings -> SD Card and Phone Storage-> Factory data reset-> Reset Phone.

Step 4. Copy the first file you downloaded to your SD card, and rename it to update.zip. Since it's a zip file already, all you may need to rename the file is to "update" if the file extension is not shown.

Step 5. Turn phone off. Hold down Home and Power until you are presented with a screen with a triangle with an exclamation point.

Step 6. Once you see that screen, press Home and power once again to get into the recovery screen.

Step 7. Using your trackball, navigate to "Apply sdcard:update.zip" and click it. The file will flash, and the phone will reboot a couple of times.

Step 8. Delete the first file from your SD card, repeat steps 4-7 with File 2. Rename File 2 to update.zip, place on the root of the MicroSD Card, turn off the phone and repeat the steps.

All done, enjoy your Android 2.2.1. Please Note: Update Android 2.2 at your own risk only. This update is only for the first MyTouch 3G, so users with the Fender MyTouch, or the one with a 3.5mm headphone jack will have to wait a while before they get their Froyo on.
